Riviera Pools Child Safety

Child Safety

The State of Florida’s Child Safety Code requires that the swimming pool be fenced or screened in and that the house be protected from the swimming pool or spa.  There can not be any direct access through any door or window in the house to the swimming pool without protection.

There are five approved methods of protection:

1.

All the windows and doors leading from the house to the pool area must be self closing and self latching and the latching mechanism can not be lower than 54” from the floor.

2.

An approved child safety net or pool blanket can be installed.

3.

A child safety fence can be installed between the house and swimming pool.

4.

All doors and windows leading out to the pool area must be equipped with a contact safety alarm.

5.

A Poolguard Pool Splash Alarm is a pool-side alarm that sences changes in the water level in the pool or spa.

Securing your house is important in order to restrict access to your backyard. Preventing children from being in your pool area unattended is a necessary aspect of purchasing and constructing your pool. Our design consultants can walk you through the four approved protection designs. The main security measure is to make sure all doors and windows are properly secured. Child safety nets are another option. These nets are made out of the highest quality materials and provide complete peace of mind in regard to the safety of your pool. Installation is easy, and it is aesthetically pleasing as safety nets do not obstruct the view of your pool.

Another option is a safety fence which can be installed on your deck and surrounds your swimming pool. This allows you to use the swimming pool easily while still keeping your loved ones safe. The fourth approved option is a Poolguard Pool alarm. This state of the art alarm system will monitor any movement in the water that is larger than plant debris or small objects. It can be put into sleep mode when you want to use your pool. The alarm is tamper proof and coms with an in-house remote receiver that has a range of 200 ft.

While there are other child safety devices available, these are the only approved methods.  Your design consultant can recommend the best method for your circumstances.  Please click here to access the Florida Statute.
